June marks Pride Month, a time to recognize the resilience, achievements, and diversity of the LBGTQIA+ community, and a movement that Tatarians have celebrated since the beginning. This is an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to fostering an inclusive community where all Tatarians can be proud and show up as their authentic selves.
This year, we asked Tatarians how they honor Pride Month. Here’s what they shared:
Recognizing and making time for friends and family.
I try to attend the San Francisco Pride Parade every year. Dykes on Bikes leads the parade on motorcycles down Market Street, kicking off a super fun and festive day!
This year, I'm working with our local pride center to put on a community-focused showcase for queer artists and allies. The show is called 'Spectrum' and will feature a gallery arranged by color to reflect the diverse identities represented in the Pride Flag. But beyond that, I celebrate pride year around with my wife by living out and proud!
I love going to pride parties and celebrating by being an ally and supporting an environment where people can be their full self.
I enjoy celebrating with friends at the Venice Pride Block Party! Great vibes, music, and food trucks!
Pride should be celebrated everyday! We should always make sure to celebrate those around us who have been brave enough to show their authenticity, beauty and strength! Show up to a pride event, show up for your friends, SHOW UP!
I try to attend at least one Pride event during the month. Throughout the year, I celebrate by intentionally supporting LGBTQ+-owned businesses and contributing to LGBTQ+ causes.
Never underestimate the competitive chaos of Drag Bingo, especially when bragging rights are on the line.
I celebrate Pride by using the time to deepen my understanding of the movement’s history. I also always support those around me as well as contributing to impactful organizations such as The Trevor Project and the ACLU; and with Tatari’s donation matching policy, I now get to double my donations. As someone that grew up in the Bay Area, I think it’s easy to take inclusivity for granted, which is why I believe it’s essential to stay mindful and proactive in fostering acceptance.
I attend the Pocono Pride Festival in Stroudsburg, PA, and call my brother to let him know he's perfect.
I actively support the NGO Ukrainian LGBT+ Military and Veterans for Equal Rights, which unites over 500 openly and closeted LGBTQ+ service members and veterans. These brave individuals not only defend our homeland on the frontlines but also advocate for equality within the Armed Forces and society at large. By contributing donations and amplifying their voices, I aim to support their mission and highlight their invaluable service.
Furthermore, I advocate for the legalization of civil partnerships in Ukraine. Currently, same-sex couples lack legal recognition, denying them fundamental rights such as hospital visitation, medical decision-making, inheritance, and access to information about their partner’s status in critical situations. Legalizing civil partnerships would address these disparities and align Ukraine with European human rights standards.
Celebrating Pride in Ukraine means standing in solidarity with those who fight for our country’s freedom and the right to live authentically and equally. It’s a commitment to building a nation where liberty and justice are truly for all.
I support all members of the LBGTQIA+ community with every woof, lick, and cuddle. Love is love, and I’m here for all the colors of the rainbow—especially if they come with treats! I’m celebrating this month with my favorite Pride chew toy!
Pride isn’t just a month, it's a year-long reflection of the inclusive culture we strive to build at Tatari every day!
